My partner and I had a great afternoon exploring Old Kochin. We visited a rich variety of residential areas, giving us a good understanding of the different architecture of the cultural and religious groups. Along the way, we saw daily life in the market, spice shops and the colourful fabric shops. We also visited the amazing laundry that appears to have been there forever, using age-old techniques to clean and dry clothes. Our guide was very caring and ensured that our ride was safe and hassle-free. I completely recommend this tour.
I was a bit nervous about cycling through the random Kochin traffic, but I needn’t have worried. Our guide had everything sorted. He was like a friend showing me around his beloved home town. I experienced intriguing local places and interesting things I wouldn't have encountered any other way. It was a wonderful insider’s view that I won’t forget.
From the time Ranjith picked us up at Forte Cochin to the end of our circular route he showed us respect and kindness. Ranjith took us on several trips during our holiday, starting with a tea plantation hike in Munnar. Ranjith organised a guide Patrick and accompanied us too. Between them both they had a wealth of knowledge on the plantation and wildlife. Even though the cloud was heavy when we reached the top the views peeked through! The experience of meeting the Tamil Tea picking Ladies first hand and seeing their homes was fantastic. We visited the tea museum too. Ranjith knows where to take westerners when in need of refreshment and has a great knowledge of the Keralan ways of life and cooking. We felt extremely safe when he was driving and he didn’t take any risks. As the trip progressed and we all relaxed we learnt so much about Keralan culture and way of life. visiting markets, spice plantations. The highlight for us was when Ranjith organised a Bamboo walk and boat trip to Periyar we lucky enough to see Elephants. Finally on visiting Alleppey he organised a boat trip in a small vessel to visit the backwaters away from the main area- we had two hours exploring the waterways , checking out the wildlife and people’s way of life. We would recommend asking Ranjith to make recommendations for accommodation as we did it ourselves and some of the properties were not in the best locations. We highly recommend using Ranjith as a guide/ driver in Kerala.
